I know of this situation through my mother. As a psychology major and mother of 2 mentally ill teenagers, I would like to see Arabella’s law (Kendra’s law) become a federal law, to protect all people, in all states, from unmedicated or noncompliant patients suffering from any type of mental illness. What can I do to help?

There is a Draft prepared, it is BDR 155, co-sponsored by Senators Joe Heck and Lynn Stewart. Please contact your legislators to get this passed.

I am so glad to see this being pursued as my life was affected by this inciddent, My dear friend will spend forever patting the pieces of her life back together, this was injustice, the law really did not do their job that tragic day, and I pray that something gets done1
My son was brutely murdered in the work place by a mentally unstable man. The man had a history of mental illness and was hopitalized for 72 hrs for observation. The doctor recommended to his parents that he be commited and they refused. There was no follow up. My son was 34 yrs. old and had just married for the first time. They were married just 8 weeks and were expecting their first child when he was murdered. I will do anything to help get this law passed. Contact me and let me know what I can do. Thanks,

Ok…just wanna put how I feel out there.
sometimes I think that the people that are so called “mental” are sometimes normal people.
for example:
My “family” tries to tell everyone that I have all these problems and that I should be locked up. i talked to my therapist about, with my “family” there. he says i am perfectly normal, and that if anything. my “family” should be locked up. he said my “family” has multiple personalities, bipolar, skitzophrenia, along with other stuff. (btw i was adopted so none of this stuff can come to me genetically) and i have to deal with everyone’s crap because of them.
i no longer have a family because of it. i stopped all contact!
I can understand this law for people that have killed others. but what about people that are classified as mental basically for the amusement of others???
(i was little at the time so all my “mental problems” were just me being a kid)
I aggree, but i also think that some people that are classified as mental arn’t really mental at all!
for example.
my best friend (who i will call cat) was considered mental for most of her life.
her mom has a so called “friend” that takes care of her and lives with her. and this “friend” would tell everyone that cat had adhd, bipolar, multiple personalities, skitzofrenia, along with other problems. when cat turned 19, she told her doctor she wanted to be re evaluated. that she didnt believe that she had all these problems. they re-evaluated her and said he has a minor case of adhd and thats it. they took cat off her meds. they said that this “friend”, who was trying to get a psycology degree, sholud be evaluated for some major disabilities. the doctors said its a wonder this “friend” hasnt been institutionalized.
so I think it would be great for a law like this, just make sure it really is the mentally handycapped are then ones that it applies to!
i see both sides to this.
my cousin and his girlfriend were murdered by an unstable man.
but on the other hand (as i said before) my best friend was considered mental because of this person that hated her.
